We review the third Test between India and England in Rajkot – where a terrific all-round performance helped India go 2-1 up.

Talking Points:

  • India’s magnificent bowling on Day 3
  • How the flat pitches in this series are neutralizing Bazball
  • India’s spinners – turning the ball more with greater control
  • Why England’s batting tactics are actually a tribute to India’s great bowling
  • Why India are actually relentlessly attacking while England are highly defensive
  • Why England should have played an extra seamer in all three Tests
  • The problem for England’s spinners in India – lack of control
  • Sarfaraz Khan’s old-school method of lofting spinners
  • Shubman Gill’s tweak to his technique
  • Ashwin’s 500th, Jadeja’s stupendous Test
  • Mohammad Siraj – non-stop relentless

  1. Regarding the comments English players make, Wood had said after the second day, that India were not taking the game ahead so we had to. Anyway, Kuldeep bowled really well. I feel if England wins the toss and get good runs in the first inning, Indian batting will falter. England has not played a good first inning in all three matches. It feels like they are always trying to set up the game for the second inning, including the Edgbaston test, this was the fourth consecutive match where India had above 100 runs lead and both teams are 2-2 in those matches. Sarfaraz really played the spin old style, or you see how it is played in domestic cricket. England is making the same mistake that India made in the WTC final, picking their bowling combination based on previous experience. Ollie Robinson will be good, Kyle Jamieson bowled well in India in the 2021 series, and this guy also bowled well in Pakistan, feels like he will be handy and I am sure he will now play both matches, with Anderson coming back for Dharmashala where they might go with three pacers. in 2021, England team got surprised with turners because 2016 was flat, Robinson said in wisden interview that they did not practice for turners in 2021 and this time they have practiced for turners. Probably somewhere in their head, they are feeling that a good score is lesser than what it actually is. Duckett after the century said oh it is very tough to make runs on a spinning pitch like this. if this is a spinning pitch, then don’t know what is a flat pitch.
