A tie! Another tie! Are you kidding me?

We review England’s tie against New Zealand at the World Cup final at Lord’s. We review the tie in the Super over. We also review the bizarre rule that handed England the trophy.

Talking points: England’s lucky breaks, Williamson’s choice of Boult for the 50th over, and all the drama off the very last ball.

Good discussion. I feel the boundary tie breaker rule looks like a lazy, careless and arbitrary addition by ICC. To a certain extent understandable. I’m sure during the technical committee meeting they would have rolled their eyes given the unlikelihood and said ok next item on the agenda :-). The governance of the game both on and off the field was shown in poor light. Hope lessons are learnt and things get better.

Also shows that each and every play matters in professional sport where margins are thin. I can’t imagine the pain English would have felt had Guptill completed the final 2 due to a misfiled or poor throw!

And oh ODIs are alive and well .

      Thanks Tarun.
